Open Coaching Position

I'm thinking we should put in a group bid to let Clay and Shay be the coaches for the Maroon-White game this Spring.  You can read about it on the MSU Athletics site:
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State fans will have a unique opportunity to join the action as head football coach Dan Mullen leads the Bulldogs through his first Maroon-White game on April 18th. An online auction has begun on the athletic department’s official website – www.MStateAthletics.com – and fans can begin bidding immediately.
We could see if Ryder could dig up some of the PPA alumni to serve as our cheering squad.

I Win!

If anyone wants to donate or beat my high score you can do so at http://race.sakomen.org/site/TR/Events/General?px=1381639&pg=personal&fr_id=1060

Kaci is Nunnrey's better half if you didn't know.

MS Casinos

Not sure how the MS Casinos are going to recover from the problems Michael pointed out earlier if they keep giving away all their money.

James, Nunnrey, and I hit a cool $8k last week. Two other $5 slots were awaiting payouts after ours, and they also paid me to play blackjack.

Das Boots

Aww, man. I wish I would have seen those results earlier--I would have brought them. Too late now, I'm at the airport.

Article on Dixon

Check out the write up from Chris Low on ESPN.com about Dixon.

The first comment is entertaining too:
We are gonna go after both balls??? PRICELESS! Always can use a great laugh first thing in the morning. Hahaha

Hail Storm in Texas

Here in Central Texas we had a heavy hail storm yesterday afternoon.  Plenty of reports and pictures on our local news sites of golf and tennis ball sized hail.  At my office we only got heavy rain and wind so my old truck was spared.  Here are some pics around my house after I got home (about 30 mins after the hail ended).

This last one is of my bathroom skylight (despite the blurriness of the picture).  I have two skylights and both of them have holes in them now, but luckily only the outer pane was damaged at my house.

John wasn't quite so lucky.  His new truck was sitting in the driveway during the storm.  And I believe all three of his skylights were damaged with one actually breaking both panes causing him to have water coming through from the rain.  You can calm down though...das boots were safely in their hard-sided carrying case so they were not damaged.

Perfect timing since we are trying to get out of here today to head to Founders Day.

The People Have Spoken

The poll regarding John bringing das boots closed yesterday.  Let's look at the results.

Should John bring das boots to Founders Day?
Yes: 5
No: 0
Only if he shows up handcuffed to the carrying case: 10

Looks like as long as John mans up we'll be celebrating Founders Day with das boots.

Founder's Day safety.

Being a bleeding heart liberal I thought I should make sure that everyone is not bringing these AR gun thingys to Founder's Day. I have rsvp'd but may pull out for fear that this will turn into some sort of fringe malitia activity breaking out against the fijis. The thought of you all building arsenals in your dark garages under your Ronald Regan shrines keeps me up nights.

Travel in style with your AR

Got a Condor rifle case today. I thought about this 5.11 Tactical case, but I cheaped out.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

An oldie, but definitely a goodie!

That might be the best amateur sketch I've ever seen.  I love that you can even get the t-shirts over at http://www.wheredagoldat.com/.  I wonder if John's brother-in-law, Teddy, is down there now?

NCAA Tourney Brackets

Since comments aren't working most of the time I want to point out that Ryder put up some bracket info a few posts ago.  His is $20 and sounds like they have quite a few peeps already.  Go win some big money.

I do want an AR-15!

In response to John's POST on 2-24-09, I do want an AR-15 and I have begun acquiring the parts to build my own!

I picked up my lower today and I also grabbed a couple of 10/30 mags. I know this sucks, but at least it looks like the real deal. For those of you unaware, only 10 round magazines are allowed in California. A 10/30 magazine is a 30 round magazine that has been modified with an insert to only allow it to hold 10 rounds. I suppose at some point they could probably be modified back to their original 30 round capacity....but only if I move out of the state! As previously mentioned, I have also ordered an RRA lower parts kit and a Command Arms SRS stock, both of which have yet to ship. Anyways, here is a picture of what I have accumulated so far.

AMMO UPDATE: I stopped in Wal-Mart yesterday to pick up a new wallet for my girlfriends daughter (she had lost hers at the movies earlier that day) and while there I decided to check out the ammo. Much to my surprise, they had .223 ammo in 20, 40 and 100 round boxes. I reckon I'll swing back by tomorrow and pick up (2) 100 round boxes @ $39 each. After that, I will then check the 3 other Wal-Marts in my area and buy up all that I can.

Founders Day 2009

Alright, this trip is right around the corner.  Here's who I've heard from lately...any of this changed?

In:
Luke and wife
Michael and gf
Me and wife
John
Nunnrey and gf
Brian J. and wife
Tarkus
Sean (haven't heard from you...you still in?)
Devin

Out:
Clay
Boy Shay
Aaron H.
Ryder (at least the last I heard)
Daniel
JT (unless Nunnrey is asking in which case he's in)

Never heard one way or another:
Bill
Les

And the info for the weekend is here.  Do me a favor and update your address if you're not receiving your newsletters (obviously you non-lammas need not worry).  Also, there is still time to vote on the poll for John to bring das boots with him.

It's sure to be a good time so make your plans and spread the word.  The first wave of us arrives in Jackson Thursday night and we'll be staying in Philly so we can make some money to pay for the weekend.  Then in Starkville, most of us will be staying at the Comfort Suites.  Contact me if you need more info.

Best Running Back in the SEC?

Chris Low of ESPN.com has picked Anthony Dixon:
The decision to go with Dixon as the top guy is based on a couple of factors. For one, Mississippi State offensive coordinator Les Koenning told me recently that Dixon was having a very good offseason and was down around the 220 to 225-pound range and moving extremely well. Here's the other thing: The Bulldogs are going to feed him the ball next season. He's their only proven weapon offensively and is going to get a bunch of touches. Dixon has been overshadowed the last couple years by other backs in the SEC. But not next season.
Sounds good to me.

Any of you want to share your predictions on the MSU run in the tournament?

Chicken Wing Party #2 Scheduled

And I'm claiming #2 since nobody else has yet...not sure what JT and Nunnrey have planned for their shindigs yet.

When: Thursday, March 19 starting ~6:00 PM
Where: Hooters of Round Rock

If any of you are in the area come on down and we'll eat wings, drink beer and watch basketball.

Happy Belated Birthday Chuck!

For those of you who aren't aware, our good friend Chuck turned 69 yesterday. For those of you still wondering who the hell I'm talking about....I'm talking about the one and only....Chuck Norris! I feel comfortable enough to refer to him by his first name as he and I go way back. While living in the LBC, I distinctly recall spending 2 hours a day watching back to back episodes of Walker, Texas Ranger. Chuck has been a long time hero/role model of mine and therefore I've chosen to post this otherwise senseless blog about him. Over the years, Chuck has earned quite a name for himself and to this day, his fanbase continues to grow. He has an aura about him, a Paul Bunyanesque aura. He is notorious for many reasons. Some of which are listed HERE! Please join me in wishing Chuck a Happy Birthday!

Asian Humor

I watched Street Kings this weekend starring Keanu Reeves.  It reminded me of Training Day, but now I see the same guy that wrote Training Day directed Street Kings so that might have something to do with it.  Anyway, enough of my movie review.  There was one key scene near the beginning where Keanu is talking with a couple of Korean thugs and here is some of the dialogue courtesy of IMDB:
Thug Kim: Konnichiwa is Japanese. It's insultin' to Koreans.
Tom Ludlow (this is Keanu's character if you can't figure it out): How am I supposed to tell if you can't?
Thug Kim: F*ck's that supposed to mean, white boy?
Tom Ludlow: It means you got eyes like apostrophes, you dress white, talk black, and drive Jew. So how am I supposed to know what kind of zipperhead dog-munching dink you are if you don't?
Boss Kim: Yo. D'you know who the f*ck we are?
Tom Ludlow: Yeah. You're a couple panheads buyin' a machine gun out of a trunk.
I figured a few of you would enjoy those racist remarks towards my people.  If it at all matters I think the movie was pretty good and I'll give it a recommend if you want to check it out.

Sounds Like a Class Act

Wow!  Jamar Hornsby sounds like a great recruit for Ole Miss.  Here are a couple articles:
I won't talk to much smack since we've had our share of thugs too, but this dude sounds pretty classy.  Just wish the dude would keep his shenanigans over in Oxford from now on.

Eastbound & Down

Just checked out the first few episodes of Eastbound & Down on HBO.  It's about a baseball pitcher that is burned out and likes his vices a bit too much.  He ends up back in his hometown and working as a gym teacher trying to plot his comeback to the pro's.

So far I gotta recommend this one.  The guy's name is Kenny Powers and for some reason I am reminded of Luke.  Lot's of beer drinking and crude humor.  In the show the dude has his own self-help tapes that he listens to on a daily basis.  One of the quotes I heard tonight:
I've been blessed with many things in this life - an arm like a damn rocket, a c0ck like a Burmese python and the mind of a f@#%in' scientist. So people often ask me, "Kenny, what are your weaknesses - do you have any?" I would say that my biggest flaw, my Achilles heel, is my tireless work ethic.

Hotel Fun

So I made it home from my trip without any complications.  I do have one more tidbit to share.

First, let me set the stage.  My flight out of Boston was at 6:00 AM this morning.  Which meant getting up at ~3:30 AM so I could knock out the three s's, check-out, turn rental car in, etc. Last night we had to do some maintenance on our application which was started at around 11:00 PM.  This lasted until about 11:30 PM and after I wrapped up with work and brushed my teeth I finally headed to bed knowing that I had less that 4 hours before I needed to wake back up to leave.

As I headed to bed, I grabbed the remote and turned off the TV.  Silence and sleep...exactly what my body desired...or was it?  The walls in my hotel must have been slightly thicker than a sheet of paper for I could hear every breath, bed squeak, and moan of the people in the next room making sweet, sweet love.

I let this go on for a few minutes before I decided to try and drown them out with the TV.  This didn't actually work too well.  I was steady flipping through the stations and finally landed on a Latino channel where there was a soap opera on (come on...the girl looked good so I stopped).  I could still hear my neighbors and for a brief period while they were making love on TV I actually muted the sound so I could use the live sound effects.  Didn't match up too well, but it made me giggle.

I've got to hand it to the dude...this went on for at least 10-15 minutes while I was aware and not sure about what was going on before I turned off my TV.  Needless, to say...when that alarm went off this morning I was not happy that they robbed me of the extra 15 minutes of sleep.

In case anyone needs a place to live in the other LA

New England Observations

I've already pointed out the most obvious thing...it's frickin' cold.  I've moved over to the Hartford, CT area this evening and the low here is around 4 degrees tonight.  However, now that I've had the day to see some things besides the drive from the airport to the hotel I wanted to share a few observations:
  1. I've never seen so many Dunkin' Donuts in my life.  I remembered passing one last night so we were using that as a landmark to get our bearings this morning.  Not a good idea...Dunkin' is on every other corner.
  2. I've never seen so many Obama bumper stickers in my life.  I'm sure John and Luke would love it up here!
  3. Haven't seen to many cute females around.  Statistics show that the proportion of cuties compared to population determines how well I'll like an area.  Not so many here.  Not sure if it's because it's below freezing out or if it's because they eat too often at Dunkin' (see #1).  Or maybe it's a combination of both plus the fact that they have to bundle up for most of the year so their skin is all pasty white.
As you can tell...not too impressed.  Ready to get back to the 80 degree weather in Texas where I can shoot my Red Ryder BB gun on my back porch.  Too bad the forecasts show crappy weather here Thursday night and a possibility of ice Friday morning when I'm supposed to be flying out.  I'll be having Groundhog Day nightmares for the next couple of nights.

Wed. night at the range

Michael, my friend, you are in for a treat when you finish up your AR. I took mine to the range tonight, and it is awesome. I don't know how I got along without it. We got there a little late (they close at 9). Did 20 .223 Remington UMC 45 gr. JHP and 50 .223 Black Hills 55 gr. FMJ. I'll test out the 5.56 Winchester 55 gr. FMJ James got me on the next trip.

Luke, when are you starting up your reloading shop?

Brrrr...JT How Can You Take It?

Just arrived in Boston and it's a freezing 15 degrees with a wind chill of 0.  All I can think about is JT lives in this crap for 8-9 months out of the year.  As soon as I walked out of the airport that cold wind sucked the breath out of me.  This is dumb.  Snow is dumb too.  I don't like it.

A Photo Fetish

At one point or another we've all been out and about and have noticed foreigners on vacation here in the U.S. with a camera attached to their face taking pictures of every damn thing they see. This practice is common amongst Asians. For an example of what I am talking about click HERE.

So recently while on my trip abroad, I thought to myself "how ironic would it be if I, a white guy, copied this practice and took pictures of everything I saw while in Southeast Asia"? Anyways, that is exactly what I did and trust me I got lots of weird looks from people who were probably thinking to themselves "Check out this crazy white guy"! LOL. Anyways, I came across some "things" that made me giggle and made those around me wonder what the hell was wrong with me. I know you are wondering what I am talking about, so I will share them with you. You may or may not find the humor in them that I did. See below!

So as you can see, my pictures are far from breathtaking, but nonetheless a bit funny. These are all store names from one of the local malls that we frequented. Notice the fetish with the term Mr.? What's up with that?

Challenge: Grilled Cheese

Back at MSU, I remember a day enjoying lunch at the Lamma house when Daniel challenged me to a grilled cheese sandwich eating contest.  How could you turn that down?  And so it began.  I don't remember exactly how many we ate, but for some reason I think I had around 6 or 7.  Daniel on the other hand was a machine and easily beat my number and I lost my first grilled cheese sandwich eating contest.

Today I read in the Austin Business Journal that we are getting a Chedd's restaurant which specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches with 35 varieties of cheese and 8 different breads.  Daniel, would you care to come down for a rematch?

The Hunt for Ammo

Yesterday, Shey and I went to the movies for the first time in over a year and saw Taken.  We enjoyed it and during the movie John sent me a text saying Wal-Mart (near our house) was out of .223 ammo for his new AR-15.  So after the movie I decided I would swing by a different Wal-Mart (near the theater) to see if they had any of the ammo John wanted.

Wal-Mart #1
We stopped at the Wal-Mart in Georgetown and to my amazement they did not have any .223 ammo except for one box of 20 rounds for ~$29.  Needless to say I didn't buy that, but thought what the heck...might as well pick up some 9MM ammo for myself since I hadn't replenished since my last trip to the range.  What do you know...no 9MM ammo at all.  How about for my 40 S&W?  None of that either.

Wal-Mart #2
Now that we are heading back to the house I decide to stop at a different Wal-Mart in Round Rock.  Same results there...they don't have any .223, 9MM or 40 S&W ammo.

We get to the house and start talking about where we should hit dinner.  Shey suggests Carl's Jr. since Nunnrey gave us a gift card for Xmas.  Sounds great...I love that place and haven't had it in years.  The only problem is that it's in South Austin (we live north of Austin).

Wal-Mart #3
Why not...so we head down and I tell Shey that I need to stop and pick up some oil and a filter for my truck.  As we are leaving Carl's Jr (and it was as delicious as I remember it), Shey points out another Wal-Mart and says how about we get your oil there and see if they have any ammo?  Jackpot...they happen to have 9MM and one box of .223 JHP rounds.  So we pick up 5 boxes of 9MM (100 rounds each) and the one box of .223 (20 rounds).  The worker is amazed that I'm spending >$100 in ammo and inquires as to why I need that much.  I told him about my day and that I want to make sure I had enough to last a few trips to the range.

Since we're in South Austin I ask if we can go ahead and hit Cabela's.  Shey says sure and we head on down.  At Cabela's I pick up a small box of 5.56 ammo for John, but unfortunately they don't have any great deals on any bulk .223 in stock.  As we're leaving it dawns on me...in my excitement at Wal-Mart #3, I forgot to get the oil and filter.

Wal-Mart #4
Next door to Cabela's is another Wal-Mart so we go ahead and hit it to pick up the stuff I forgot to get at the last store.  Since we are there we swing by just to see if they have any ammo in...they don't.

The wrap up...5 different Wal-Marts (remember John hit 1 too) didn't have the 100 round boxes of .223 ammo.  Only one had any 9MM ammo and none of them had any 40 S&W ammo.  John also hit an Academy Sports and they were out of the 9MM and .223 as well.  My advice to you...stock up.

More gun porn

That's pretty sweet Daniel. While we're at it, here's my wife's Glock 19 with tactical light (I gave her the tac light for Christmas last year).
