Founders Day 2011

Anyone planning on going?  It's the weekend of March 25-27 this year.  In 2009 there was a large showing of our crew.  In 2010, not so much.  I spent a significant portion of the weekend drinking alone so this is me asking for your support so that doesn't happen again.

Let Me Post That For You: Winna Winna Chicken Dinna

From Nunnrey's recent Vegas trip:
This pains me to write because I know the reaction that I'm going to receive...

The Vegas trip was pretty good, I think I calculated costs being between 400-500 bucks going into the last day of the trip (excluding airfare, including tickets to "Peepshow" and a couple room upgrades). At any rate, John and James, you owe me 25 bucks each for the gamblin'...which we'll call even because of the horseracing win you had last week ($33.00 profit) and because 4 hours before I got on the plane to come home on Saturday I hit $1800 on a triple wild cherry...

I've attached the pictures so you could virtually enjoy Vegas.... I didn't get in nearly enough gamblin', so I'll likely be ready again in a few months.

JT, I've added the additional pictures and audio for your entertainment... play yinyang.wav while viewing yinyang.jpg, it'll feel like you are there.

Few things:
  • As I'm sitting in the hotel lobby I don't have an easy way to give you the audio file Nunnrey included, but it's some dumb (and racist) slot machine sound that is supposed to be an Asian sound effect.
  • Not sure what reaction he was afraid of receiving...just give me my cut and we're good.
  • Been chatting with JT/Nunnrey about the next Vegas trip. Will most likely be sometime later in the year. Been kicking around maybe spending Thanksgiving there if anyone is interested.

Preakness

Good news: James and I hit our Trifecta wheel
Bad news: We're not rich ($75 bet, $108.10 payout)

Better than losing money though.

Founders Day Wrap Up

I'm finally feeling back to about 99% today after the long weekend of drinking in Mississippi.  What did we learn:
  • Philly was very good to a few of us.  I think my winnings will be just enough to cover my deductible for the hail damage to my roof (if I need a new roof as my roofer is telling me).  I think John is buying more AR-15 equipment with his, and I guess Nunnrey will probably buy some chickens.  I'm wondering if I should add the mustache to my list of winning slot moves.
  • Crunk Craig is a jerk according to the slow chicks in front of us at the golf course.  It only took one hole to realize why.  Maybe my Red Ryder will speed them up next time.
  • The birthday girl (aka Trained Killa, aka Gun Cleaning Machine), Vanessa, doesn't appear to be able to drink like she used to.
  • Courtney is learning the SWA Rap as we speak.  Be on the lookout for her on a future flight.  Did I mention Courtney is a NKOTB groupie?
  • On Saturday night, I think that waitress from Friday night was out celebrating the large tip she earned from us.  Too bad we didn't have her the second night instead of that slow, forgetful chick we had.
  • Tarkus is getting old.  His hair is gray.  He's not on any of the social networking sites and has never heard of Twitter (not that I completely understand why people use it).  When I said blog he had a puzzled look on his face.  And then he started in on the virtues of face-to-face discussions over email.
  • I want to welcome our new authors to the blog.  I know you guys are dying to post so here are a few of the older posts you should check out first: Genesis, What's It Gonna Take and Blog Template.

MS Casinos

Not sure how the MS Casinos are going to recover from the problems Michael pointed out earlier if they keep giving away all their money.

James, Nunnrey, and I hit a cool $8k last week. Two other $5 slots were awaiting payouts after ours, and they also paid me to play blackjack.

Founders Day 2009

Alright, this trip is right around the corner.  Here's who I've heard from lately...any of this changed?

In:
Luke and wife
Michael and gf
Me and wife
John
Nunnrey and gf
Brian J. and wife
Tarkus
Sean (haven't heard from you...you still in?)
Devin

Out:
Clay
Boy Shay
Aaron H.
Ryder (at least the last I heard)
Daniel
JT (unless Nunnrey is asking in which case he's in)

Never heard one way or another:
Bill
Les

And the info for the weekend is here.  Do me a favor and update your address if you're not receiving your newsletters (obviously you non-lammas need not worry).  Also, there is still time to vote on the poll for John to bring das boots with him.

It's sure to be a good time so make your plans and spread the word.  The first wave of us arrives in Jackson Thursday night and we'll be staying in Philly so we can make some money to pay for the weekend.  Then in Starkville, most of us will be staying at the Comfort Suites.  Contact me if you need more info.

Breaking up is hard to do.....or Is It?

Well as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. After 14 wonderful years, I have ended my love affair with smoking. I am proud to announce that today is my 28th consecutive day without a cigarette. To the layperson, that is 4 weeks!

Why did I do it you ask? I honestly don't know. When it comes down to it, I love smoking. I suppose the only good answer I can come up with is that I know it is bad for me. Aside from that I love everything about it.

How did I do it you ask? Easy. 4 weeks ago I checked my luggage in at LAX as I prepared for my trip to the Philippines. Once my luggage was on it's way to the underbelly of the plane, I stepped outside, smoked my final cigarette and proceeded to board the plane bound for the land of little people. It wasn't easy but a steady diet of rice and Asian Tang sure helped. I know I know.....you are all curious to hear what I mean by Asian Tang. By Asian Tang, I mean the orange Tang drink. While on vacation, one of the resorts I stayed at tried to pawn off the powdered Tang mix as freshly squeezed Florida orange juice. I knew when I tasted it that something was up, but it wasn't until the next morning that I noticed one of the servers behind the bar mixing powdered Tang mix with water in a pitcher named “OJ”. Busted! But anyways, I digress.

So what does all this mean? It means that I must now retrain my body to function without a Marlboro in my hands. There are many things that prior to 4 weeks ago I had never experienced sober (without a cigarette). I started smoking at 15 so activities such as driving, drinking, gambling and sex are all things that I now get to enjoy smoke free. On a side note, all of those activities are much better enjoyed with a cigarette, but I'm hopeful that in time that will all change.

In closing, I am sure the time will come when I will smoke another cigarette or perhaps even a pack or two (upcoming trip to Starkville), but having experienced this 4 week hiatus, I am confident that aside from those few instances here and there that I will be able to stay the course and continue my journey of being smoke free.
