Founders Day 2011

Anyone planning on going?  It's the weekend of March 25-27 this year.  In 2009 there was a large showing of our crew.  In 2010, not so much.  I spent a significant portion of the weekend drinking alone so this is me asking for your support so that doesn't happen again.

Road Trip: Founders Day 2010

It's March 26-28 this year. Georgia will be playing our baseball team in Starkville that weekend. I believe all of the normal golf and crawfish festivities will be on again. Anyone planning on going?

Also, anyone got any tickets for sale (or know someone that's selling) for the Auburn @ MSU basketball game on Feb 13? John and I will be in Starkville and for a reasonable price would like to go to the game.

Weekend BBQ: DOMINO Edition

Over the weekend, the MSU Track & Field team was in town for the Texas Relays.  On Saturday evening, we were invited to a BBQ in which the MSU coaches would be attending.  The BBQ itself was hosted by a local MSU alum from the 80's.  He had a bunch of his friends and family in town (I estimate there were 40+ people there), and most of them were from MSU as well.  Oh yeah, it's worth mentioning that the host and majority of attendees were Que Dogs from MSU.  

When we came strolling in it was about like you would expect...tables and chairs setup in the backyard, the game on the big screen in the living room, drinks flowing freely, plenty of Black and Milds and Swisher Sweets, and a game of bones in progress.  The host introduced us to everyone and one of the guys, Kelvin, I recognized.  I started talking with him and he said he drives the buses around for the student-athletes at MSU.  I then asked if he used to drive the shuttle from frat row onto campus and he said yeah.  Some of you lammas will probably remember him as well.

Other notes:

• We introduced them to Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka.  I brought a handle of it over and it was well on it's way to being gone when we left.
• The ribs and green beans were excellent (I wouldn't have expected any less).
• We discussed at length the branding process for members getting the Omega symbol on their arms.  I told them about Eric T. and Luke getting the Lambda on their backs on a camping trip.
• Shey got a dude to show her the brands on his chest.  She was particularly interested in this guy because he was a fireman.  Coincidentally, Shey did not wear her wedding rings to the party.
• The fireman told me that the "big, light-skinned, brother" inside had brands on both of his butt cheeks.  On my way in for a drink I happened to cross paths with him and in my drunken stupor I inquired about it.  He told me he actually had two on one cheek and one on the other.  I then said, "Prove it!"  Just kidding about that last part, but in hindsight it was pretty dumb of me to ask one of the biggest dudes at the party about his butt.
• John was upset that there wasn't some sort of step-show, but I told him he would need to challenge someone if he wanted to see it.  But of course he's scurd so it didn't happen.
  
• I was not ostracized for having my sweat rag in hand.
  

All joking aside, we had a great time.  We had only planned on being there for about two hours which turned into 4+ hours by the time we left.  I can't wait for next year.  We're already planning on bringing a cooler of Boone's Farm so we can pass those around.

Founder's Day safety.

Being a bleeding heart liberal I thought I should make sure that everyone is not bringing these AR gun thingys to Founder's Day. I have rsvp'd but may pull out for fear that this will turn into some sort of fringe malitia activity breaking out against the fijis. The thought of you all building arsenals in your dark garages under your Ronald Regan shrines keeps me up nights.

Challenge: Grilled Cheese

Back at MSU, I remember a day enjoying lunch at the Lamma house when Daniel challenged me to a grilled cheese sandwich eating contest.  How could you turn that down?  And so it began.  I don't remember exactly how many we ate, but for some reason I think I had around 6 or 7.  Daniel on the other hand was a machine and easily beat my number and I lost my first grilled cheese sandwich eating contest.

Today I read in the Austin Business Journal that we are getting a Chedd's restaurant which specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches with 35 varieties of cheese and 8 different breads.  Daniel, would you care to come down for a rematch?

It's sounding like we'll have quite a showing based on what I've heard so far and some of you can begin to expect some harassing emails/calls from me very soon.

Random Saturday BS

1. Eric T. is now a member of Backtoms.  Did you say you had an update on Shoeshine Man for us?  Do share.
2. You can watch the Ole Miss at MSU game for free on Yahoo! Sports today...sorry so late, but just found it myself.
3. Earlier while listening to the pregame on XM Radio we (John and I) heard a commercial about keeping Mississippi clean and not littering.  That reminded me of the time we were out doing the Adopt A Highway program on HWY 25 for the Lammas and Luke came driving by to throw trash out of his truck for us to pick up.  Thanks, Luke.

Biggie: Resurrection

You guys remember Eric T. (a.k.a - Biggie Smalls)?  He is one of the founding fathers of the Phi Alpha Tau (PhAT) sect of the Lammas and one of the funnier guys I have ever met.  For years, some of us have wondered what ever happened to him.  And I can remember many a night pouring some out for our homie with Aaron H. not knowing if Eric was dead or alive.

Through the power of social networking, Eric has re-surfaced.  He's back in Houston now and sounds like he is doing much better after some hard years with his vices.  Now if we can just find Shoeshine Man we can all have a reunion.

Road Trip: Founders Day 2009

Who can make the trip out for Founders Day this year?  It's on March 28-29.  I slacked and didn't make it in 2008 because of my wedding, but now that's out of the way.  I'm sure the normal things will be planned like the golf tourney and crawfish boil, but this year also happens to be the Lamma centennial celebration so I'm told there will probably be more activities planned.  

My significant other is planning on making the trip out as well, so no reason not to bring yours too.  Some of you guys that will be on my golf team need to start working on your game since you know I won't be.  And Daniel, I still promise that I didn't break your club.  Luke, there might be more quacktastic ducks out at the course if you need a new hood ornament on your cart.
